Chrome

Note: Original British chrome work tended to have more of a bluish tint than its North American counterpart.

The windshield frame, grill, headlamp rings, body side molding, bumpers and nave plates are chrome.

Windshield Frame

The windshield frames for both DHC and Saloon are the same.

Windscreen Wiper Blades

Early Jaguars with flat windshield glass should have single-piece stiff-backed wiper blades rather than the flexible-type used with multi-pieced blade supports on later curved windshields. Wiper blade brand names are not judged.

The wiper blades should be 10 inches long, with a single rubber blade. They are mounted to chrome plated metal wiper blade arms.

Back Light (Rear Window)

The Back Light, whether for the Saloon or the various DHC models, have chrome surrounds.

Radiator Cap and Mascot

The external chrome radiator cap is the real cap; there should not be any additional pressure cap under the bonnet. It is in fact a non-pressurized system.

Standard Radiator Cap

Radiator Cap with correct heart based leaper

The standard radiator cap has no provision for any decorative mascot or locking attachment. The Crosby leaping Jaguar mascot, with heart shaped base, BD.6206 on the radiator cap is a factory accessory, not fitted on all cars. (PC) The Autocar Road Test car had one. (AutocarRT) It must have the heart shaped base with one threaded fastener, not the rectangular base with two screws for later model Mark IX saloons, nor the smaller versions for XJ and later saloons. To fit it correctly, the cap must be drilled in the exact center.

The Mark IX  Leaper, with the rectangle base leaper, is incorrect for the Mark V.

Grille

Headlamp Trim Rings

All Mark Vs have the same outer trim ring for the headlamps.

The inner trim ring is sized either for the Non-US 7.7″ headlight  or the US 7″ headlight.

Wing Mirrors

Wing mirrors should be the Lucas W1906C and W1907C style, mounted just outside the sidelamp. The mirror should be mounted at the apex of the front wing.

Mirrors of various styles mounted on the doors have been seen, are not authentic original, but may have been installed on the car when new at the dealership or by an early owner.

Body Side Molding

The MK V models are not fitted with body side molding

Bumpers

Front Bumpers

There are two separate bumper spears on each side, two guards and a central panel, making up the front bumper, each mounted on black support bars. The tops of the bumpers should be level with each other. The top of the license plate bracket should be chrome, the rest is painted black.

Rear Bumpers

All cars had the same bumpers, as shown in the Service Manual Plates N11 & N12 and Parts Catalogue but not the Operating Handbook, as the pictures in this publication are of pre-production mockups. The spears, guards and starting crank loop are chrome. The front center panel is chrome but painted over in gloss black in the area for the license plate. The plinth or cover panels are body color. The supporting structural bars are gloss black.

Nave Plates

The Nave Plates ( hub caps) are chrome and should have the recessed area painted body color.

Stainless

The MK V models do not have any stainless steel fitments.

Accessories

Antenna

As the radio was dealer installed, the radio antenna may be in various locations such as:

-On top corner of the scuttle
-On the side of the scuttle if there are no vent doors there
-On the back of the front fender near the door
-Under the front fender

Badge Bar

A chrome accessory Badge Bar C.5570 for club and event badges was offered, and should be mounted on the front bumper valence. (PC)

Badges should be mounted using slotted screws and the proper wrap-around chrome bracket.

The C.5699 “Windcheat” transparent plastic radiator shield improved heater performance in winter, and deflected insects from the radiator in summer. (PC)

Photo not currently available but it was a factory option.

A C.4006 towing bar for pulling a trailer was offered in five heights of 14” to 18” above the ground level. (PC)

Photo not currently available but it was a factory option.

Tailpipes  (Exhaust Pipes)

All Mark V models have a single muffler and a single tailpipe, exiting under the bumper to the right of the right hand bumper overrider, where there is a half round cutout in the bodywork intended for this purpose.

Resonators

The MK V models are not fitted with resonators.
