Original Hood Boot
The color of the Hood Envelop should match the hood (cloth top) and the piping, as shown on this original Envelop, should match the color of the upholstery. The Envelop Assembly (Encloses Hood When Folded) is supplied to the drop head coupe models only. The main color of the Envelop Assembly should match the color to the top, while the piping may match the piping color of the leather upholstery. Also shown is another backlight believed to be original.

The Hood Irons are correctly fitted when the Large Center Round Hinge Is On The Upper Rear Of Hood Irons |
When The Top Is Folded Down, The Round Part Of The Center Hinge Is Forward. |
“Hood Irons” (Landeau bars-the ornamental S-Shaped metal bar used when folding the Hood ) are the chrome plated hood hinge bars. When installed correctly, the large center round hinge is towards the upper rear of the car. These are sometimes called pram irons.
The Hood Irons are incorrectly fitted when the Large Center Hinge Is On The Lower forward part of the Hood Iron |
When Incorrectly fitted and The Top Is Folded Down, The Round Part Of The Center Hinge Is Rearward. |
With the top up, the Hood Irons are improperly installed when the large center round hinge is towards the lower forward part of the car.
Rear Window or Backlight
The backlight or rear window is glass with a chrome surround, with screws visible on the inside but not the outside of the hood. Flexible plastic windows are not correct authentic original. The parts catalogue lists one part number BD.4094, but the factory may have used others. Glass back windows have been observed in several size ovals and rectangular shapes, and it is not clear which if any of these are the original specification.

This is believed to be the narrow oval rear window (backlight) BD.1369 used on early Mark V’s. It was narrow so that the hood could be folded down into the recess behind the seat. It does NOT zip down. No cate for the change to Zip-Out is currently available. |

Chrome Pin Bead on Hood
Pin beading is the narrow, chrome plated, half-round trim found on the drop head coupe models. It is called pin beading because, when properly attached, hidden pins on its backside hold it in place. The Mark IV beading above the backlight was cloth covered, though below it was chrome, and this may or may not have been the method used initially for early Mark V hoods, but chrome beading above and below is more often seen. Vinyl covered beading is not correct. Screws, or other visible substitute fasteners, used to hold pin beading in place, are non-authentic, except possibly at the ends.
Hood Stitching
All the hood stitching is the same color as the hood.
Side Curtains
As the MK V DHC has roll up side windows, the MK DHC is NOT fitted with side curtains.
Tonneau
The MK V DHC is not fitted with a Tonneau (the fabric material that covers the passenger compartment when the Head (fabric top) is folded down) cover.
