Lamp Lenses
Non-US models fitted with PF770 tri-bar type 7.7 inch twin filament | P100 headlamps are not correct |
7 inch Sealed Beam for USA and Canada
Headlamps for most markets are PF770 tri-bar type 7.7 inch twin filament, but may be either both right or both left dipping for the appropriate market, with UK having twin filaments in the LH but a single filament in the RH bulb for main only, so it goes out rather than dipping. This arrangement may now be considered unsafe, and dipping bulbs for both sides should be an acceptable update.
White bulbs were used for most markets, but yellow bulbs for France. Sealed beam 7 inch for USA and Canada, with a different inner chrome ring to match, but the outer chrome ring with chrome spear motif and attachment piece below was the same for all cars. Headlamp laws varied for different countries, so the factory fitted special headlamps accordingly. Cars for the USA were sent out without any headlamps at all, receiving their sealed beam units at the US distributor where they were presumably acquired wholesale at a lower cost, and the US brand name was not recorded, but General Electric is the most likely candidate, followed by Guide Sealed Beam, Delco-Remy and Tung-Sol. Fog Lamps
Standard fog lamps are Lucas No. 55073A Type SFT.700/S on all cars, but other types may have been fitted as design improvements, special customer requests, or requirements for certain countries. They are mounted in the wings, not on the bumper. One very late production car has been reported as never having had any fog lamps at all from the factory. The fog lamps are wired so that they only operate with the headlamp switch in the sidelamp position, so they cannot be operated in conjunction with the headlamps.
Sidelamps
Side lamp lenses are frosted glass with a crimped style chrome rim. |
This XK120 “Beehive” sidelight lenses is not correct for the Mark V. |
Late Mark V’s had the little red “LUCAS” jewels
Note: These Jewels are fitted backwards, the Flat Portion should be to the front.
Late Mark V’s had the little red “LUCAS” jewels fitted on the top behind the park light rim as on the XK’s and Mark 7-9, etc.

Trafficators
Trafficator semaphores were specified for most markets, but flashing turn signals in the sidelamps and taillamps with a round cylinder Tung-Sol flasher unit on the scuttle for USA and Canada deliveries. All saloons have cutouts in the center pillars for trafficators, but if trafficators were not fitted, a blanking plate was fitted instead, painted body color on the outside, and chrome door window frames without cutouts were used. In the DHC the trafficators were in the body side behind the doors, but if trafficators were not fitted there were no cutouts at all in the body for them. (PC)
A number of Canadian delivery cars have been reported with 7.7 inch tri-bars and trafficators. (Reilly)
Trafficator cars with added front and rear turn signals are not authentic original.
Trafficator cars have a single filament bulb and turn signal cars have twin filaments. Early style rear lens, single round center for Trafficator Cars
Later style rear lens, single round center for Trafficator Cars |
|
MK V models with Trafficator have a single filament bulb and a single round lens in the tail lamps. | MK V models with turn signals have twin filament bulb in the sidelamps. |
